Kennebunkport, ME - 2009

We spent another vacation week in Kennebunkport. I had a good time taking pictures. We rented the same house as last year that fits 13 of us.

It is a 10 minute walk to Walkers Point from the house. I took a couple pictures as I do each year along with every other tourist that has ever driven or walked by. Former President George H.W. Bush and Former First Lady Barbara were in town. I saw Barbara once but didn't get a picture.

We had fun walking to the rocks. Most mornings Pam would take pick up something for breakfast and eat at the rocks. The house on the rocks we go to is the one featured in the old soap opera "Dark Shadows". I took a sunset picture of the church by the rocks. A storm rolled through Friday so the waves were big.

We went to the beach several times. We enjoyed the water, sand and playing several games. Kevin is covered by towels while lying on the sand. We put chips on him and watched the seagulls walk on him and eat the chips.

We often walk to the jetty and watch the boats coming and going. The kids like to play in the cove when the tide is out.

Cape Porpoise, ME - 2009

I went to Cape Porpoise several times during our vacation. The last morning before we left I was up at 5:00AM to see if I could get sunrise pictures. There was a break in the clouds along the horizon so I thought the color could come through. I drove by the Bush compound and saw what I thought would be the start of some color breaking through so off I went to Cape Porpoise. As I was driving the sunrise stated to change color and get more vivid. I wish I was about 10 minutes earlier. Since it was my first attempt at a sunrise I wasn't sure where to go. As I approached Cape Porpoise the sun was coming up behind where I would normally go so I took a different road with a different view. As you can see from these pictures the pink and yellow really came through and I was lucky enough to get a boat in the picture. Next time I will pick something to photograph and set up so I won't miss some of the colors. The sunrise went from pink to yellow.

Since Cape Porpoise is a working dock there tends to be a lot of fishing activity in the morning and later in the day. Many boats are gone by the time I arrive in the morning. Here are some boats and lobstermen at work pictures.

I thought these buildings in the area made interesting pictures.

Over the years I tend to go to Cape Porpoise after dinner. One night I went a bit later so I could take sunset pictures.

Our visit with Dan & Betsy

Going to Dan And Betsy's for a cookout has been a tradition for us. As the kids get older they get more daring being pulled on the tube. Kevin tried his hand at fishing for a bit but no success. Kevin tried to figure out how to steer the boat using the trolling motor controls. You use foot controls to do this. Luckily Dan did not get sick.

More tube action for the kids. Courtney had a pretty good wipe out. They are telling me we need to buy a boat. Thanks a lot!!

Dan has always been an expert with remote control things. So many planes, several boats and cars. He really likes his electronics. Kevin and Katelyn enjoyed racing the electric speedboat around. Kevin was able to fly the float plane with Dan using a buddy box.

July 4, 2009 - Lake Winnipesaukee

We headed to David and Kristen’s house on Lake Winnipesaukee for much of the day. Lots of water fun with jet ski’s, kayak’s, a paddle boat, the ski boat, etc.

There wasn't much traffic on the drive so we arrived around 10:30AM. The weather was great with the occasional rain clouds passing by. Sun ... rain for 20 minutes ... sun ... rain for 20 minutes ... sun …

The girls really liked the jet ski’s. Matt went out with Megan. Doug went out with Katelyn. David went out with Courtney. They can tell you how the rain hurts when riding fast on a jet ski. The water was calm so it was easy to go fast.

The 2 Kayak's Mike and Lauren brought got plenty of use. Kevin really enjoyed himself paddling around the small island next to David’s place.

The double tube was real fun for the girls and Kevin. Even though David took it easy on them some of the facial expressions they made were priceless. We passed a Bald Eagle nest. Kevin caught a glympse of a bird but I didn't. After we left Doug saw a Bald Eagle flying around close by. I would have loved to get a picture of that.

It was great to catch up with everyone. Mike, Ray, and Doug are already starting to think about their Montana Elk hunt in October. Rick and I didn't put in for a license this year. NUTS. Mike said they better be in shape as they will be hunting at around 12,000 feet.

We headed to Rob and Wendy’s. at 4:30PM. Some serious volleyball was played along with swimming in the pool and a balloon toss. It was a long day so we skipped the local fireworks to watch the Boston Fireworks on TV.
