The big Ice Fishing Derby in New Hampshire was this weekend. Big prizes for people that make to board with the biggest fish in the different categories (Lake & Rainbow Trout, Pike, Perch, Browns, etc.) On Saturday, Kevin and I went to Lake Winnipesaukee in Meredith, NH for the day. Steven , Jed, and John rented a house for the weekend with their boys and drive up Friday night ... in bed at 1:00AM ... up at 4:30AM and on the ice by 6:00AM Saturday. Kevin and I didn't arrive until late morning. Mark and Doug showed up around noon.
We parked at Spindle Point and walked out to Lighthouse Point. By the time we arrived Steven was just starting the grill to make some lunch. The tip-ups were already in the holes so we relaxed and waited for flags to go off.
There was great food, conversation, football, the bottle toss, and a rocket to pass the time. We saw lots of snowmobiles on the ice. This person was on his way to the board with his lake trout. Kevin and I headed home late in the afternoon. We stopped at the board before we left. There were some nice fish hanging on the board when we arrived. Since this was day one of a 2 day derby who knows if bigger fish will overtake the ones we saw.
